Long Island Couples Drop Thousands on Italian Getaways
Valentine’s Day and winter’s chill always spur couples to seek out destinations to kindle their romance – whether newlyweds on a honeymoon, or a couple looking to deepen their relationship, propose or celebrate some milestone.
Denyse Pantaleo, a tour designer and manager at Walks of Italy, which organizes authentic walking experiences in Europe’s culturally rich destinations, offers a list of 10 of Italy’s most romantic places.
The Dolomites in northern Italy offer snow-covered peaks and intimate alpine villages perfect for winter getaways. Experience skiing, ice skating, and fondue at mountain lodges in towns like Cortina d’Ampezzo and San Cassiano.
“The Dolomites are stunning all year round, but, for me, they are extra special in the winter months,” said Pantaleo.
Rome, the Eternal City, is steeped in romance and history. Couples can stroll along cobblestone streets, visit hidden courtyards, and sip espresso at cozy cafes.
Turin, nestled in the Piedmont region, offers thermal spas like QC Termetorino for relaxation. The city features attractions like the Mole Antonelliana and Royal Palace of Turin, plus local specialties like agnolotti and gianduja chocolate.
“Turin is known for chocolate, coffee, cars, and soccer, with it being the home of Fiat and Juventus. It’s an elegant city set against the backdrop of the Alps,” said Pantaleo.
Verona, the setting for William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” offers couples the chance to explore Juliet’s courtyard, medieval streets, the Piazza delle Erbe, and the Castelvecchio Bridge.
The Amalfi Coast, with its dramatic cliffs and clear blue waters, provides a dreamlike setting with towns like Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello offering picturesque settings and fresh seafood.
